Naming is a tough thing. I’ve come up with good names and bad names for products over the years. The problem is that you can’t define a good name – you just know it when you hear it.
I have decided that I am going to stick to this blog thing – so I need a good name for it. My description/tagline for the blog is “A Blog on the LabVIEW Platform: Where Business and Technology Collide”. I was thinking of referencing LabVIEW wiring in the name:
Untangling the Wires
Tangled Wires
Wired for Business
or something like that.
Please vote on your favorite name based on these three entries, or, if you have a better idea…
Let’s open up the naming process to the community. To sweeten the pot, I will provide a $50 Amazon gift certificate (or iTunes if you prefer) to whoever comes up with the coolest name for my blog. This is from my own pocket – so its not an NI-sponsored contest. There are no rules. As I often have to explain to my guys here too, there is a fine line between cool and stupid, and I am the definer of that line. You may think something is really cool, but in the end – I have all decision rights in the matter. If I get a good submission and go with it, I will reimburse the winner (who will also have the ultimate prize – bragging rights). I will also take votes on the current ideas listed above.

These are off the top of my head and do not necessarily have any meaning behind them:
The wire?
Show me the money?
Funny business?
BLT, anyone? (Business, LabVIEW, Tech., although this is probably way too American)
The business connection?
The business angle?

Your tentative blog titles sound cool but will it bring Search traffic? If you plan on writing for a large audience, you may need to sacrifice the coolness-factor for SEO.
I think Yair had a clever suggestion with his acronym; how about “The BLT Blog: Business, LabVIEW and Technology.”
I think it’s the closest to getting the best of both worlds(clever/cool+SEO). Or maybe I’m just hungry… mmm, BLTs…

Here’s a few ideas:
“JP Thinking G”
“The LabVIEW Times” (or substitute any other newspaper style name – Gazette, Today, Chronicle, etc.)
“A Few Words on G”

Here are a few ideas:
Business Wire
The Test ‘Software’ Executive
VP of LV
Wiring the Business
Wiring Money
If you don’t pick one of my, admittedly genius ideas, Wired for Business takes my vote.

There has been much creativity spent in supplying name ideas for my blog. I am currently piloting the name “Inside LabVIEW” as the most descriptive one – I was considering “InsideVIEW”, but went the more responsible route to have the actual name of the product in the title – as a friend of mine mentioned, afterall, my goal is to capture more traffic and search engine referrals than ni.com itself, so I am going with a title that uses the name “LabVIEW”.
As far as the prize for naming goes, props go out to the users who joined in, particularly on the Champions forum. Although I won’t reference it here, one in particular had some creative juices “flowing” that may warrant the prize. Also, any mention of “The Who” is also appreciated here – although that is a whole different blog post.
